Everyone Misunderstood The Matrix — Here’s the Truth
Welcome to the deeper you go, the weirder it gets. I'm your host, Garett Renon So in this episode, I want to talk about something most people completely misunderstood about the matrix. See, most people think the message of that movie was simple, unplug, detach, escape, and disappear from the system. But that couldn't be further from the truth.
Garett:See, the movie was never about running away from the matrix. It was about waking up. It was about discovering the truth of your reality, learning the rules, the limits, and the constraints of the system you were born into. And here's the key takeaway. Once you understand those rules, something changes.
Garett:You don't disappear from the system. You learn how to move within it with awareness, with intention, with power. And the same is true for us in our so called real world. See, whether we like it or not, we were all born into a system eerily similar to the matrix. And while that can be unsettling, it is also important to understand something.
Garett:This is where life happens. This is where all the action is. This system, flawed flawed as it is, is a part of the human experience. And while our system has its flaws, and that is definitely an understatement. Right?
Garett:Completely detaching yourself from this system doesn't make you free. It just leaves you isolated. And see, the movie tells us that the real trap wasn't necessarily the system itself. The trap was being asleep inside the system, and that's what this episode is all about. Before we jump into it, I want to take a moment to thank you all for listening to the show, And this show runs on your support.
Garett:So if these conversations resonate with you, a few simple ways to help the show are to share the show with a friend, subscribe, and leave a review. That really does help more people find the show. You can get some podcast gear. You can sign up for my newsletter. You can grab a copy of the unplugged journal, or you can get some pine pollen or Elysian Tallow.
Garett:And speaking of podcast gear, I just released an updated version of the Quotes From Mother series, which has been a big hit. My personal favorite is the Ayahuasca University shirt and hoodie. On the front, they say Ayahuasca University. On the back, they now say the deeper you go, the weirder it gets. And, honestly, I don't know why I originally left the slogan off because it makes perfect sense.
Garett:That phrase is not just a catchy saying. That phrase came from ceremony. See, several years ago, I came out of an Ayahuasca ceremony completely blown open. I went deep. I saw entities, worlds, cities.
Garett:I saw the origins of religion and their connection to plant medicine and nature itself. It was weird. Not in a bad way, but in a way that was completely strange, impossible to explain, and yet somehow deeply familiar. It felt real and unreal at the same time. Alien and ancient, impossible and intelligent, and later that night talking with other participants, I found myself saying it out loud.
Garett:Man, the deeper you go, the weirder it gets. And that sentence stuck because it captures the essence of the experience perfectly. And this must be said, see, not all Ayahuasca experiences and methodologies are the same. Just drinking the medicine is not the same as working with the medicine, which is why I'm such a fan of Shapebo style ceremonies because they aren't just about chasing visions or surfing the cosmos. They're about obtaining knowledge.
Garett:They're about learning directly from the plants and mother nature. In fact, they approach the medicine the same way you would approach a university, not as entertainment, but as an initiation. A university is a gateway to expansion, and nothing expands the mind quite like Ayahuasca University. So grab a shirt or a hoodie and represent your alma mater. And let me tell you, adding the slogan on the back makes these shirts and hoodies both a head turner and a conversation starter.
Garett:Alright. Let's get on with the episode.
Garett:Most people completely misunderstand the main message from the movie, The Matrix. Now if you know anything about me, you know that The Matrix is by far my favorite movie of all time. In fact, I believe that The Matrix is so much more than just simple entertainment. It's a documentary that uses fiction to hide truth in plain sight. See, if you watch the movie and you pay attention to the details, you can actually learn a lot about how to navigate and operate within the world that we live.
Garett:But most people, including myself, miss the main message. And that is, we are never meant to completely escape the matrix. See, that's what I thought. I thought the goal was to completely unplug and disconnect yourself, but that's not what the movie is telling you, and that is not my experience in the real world. So you think about how the movie plays out.
Garett:Neo first has doubts about the world he's living in. He feels that it's a fabrication or a system that is operating against his best interest. He feels there's something more and he feels that a big truth is being hidden from him. And so then he essentially discovers a way out. He is then quote unquote unplugged from the matrix.
Garett:But really what happens during this unplugging is not that he was essentially removed from the system, is that he was awakened to the truth and the reality about the world he lived in. And during this education process, he started to learn about the rules, laws, and who the good guys and the bad guys were within the system that he was living in. Then being armed with this new knowledge, he essentially goes back into the matrix and is able to operate on a completely different level, on a higher level. And that's because before his quote unquote unplugging, he had no idea about the game he was playing. He was just drifting through life like everybody else, just clocking in, clocking out, paying his taxes, paying his bills, saving for his retirement, hoping for a two week vacation, all the while just being a complete pawn to the system, just being used for the system's benefit.
Garett:After unplugging, he discovers a whole new world. He discovers the motivations of the system. He discovers that he's been used for his energy and his brain power. And it's a quite dark and sinister discovery. But here's where it gets good because once he discovered this, once he learned the truth, once he discovered the motivations of the system of the matrix, he became armed with knowledge.
Garett:And this knowledge allowed him to play the game on a completely different level. Think about it like this. Can you play a game or can you even win a game that you don't know the rules or the objective? Right? You can't.
Garett:It's impossible. Imagine I said, let's play a game. And you said, okay. I said, You go first. What would you do?
Garett:Right? You would you would be like, what do you mean I go first? What what's the point of the game? What are the rules? What are the constraints?
Garett:What are the objectives? What do you mean I just go first? Well, that's essentially the game we are all playing right now. If you think about your life, one day you just spontaneously appeared into this world, into this system, into this matrix. Not only did you just appear into this world, but there was a whole complete system that was going on long before you got here.
Garett:There are rules, there are languages, there are countries, there are religions, there are cultures, there are histories, and all these things have been playing out for thousands of years before you got here. And you just show up one day and then people are pushing you into schools and making you read books, giving you a history about the land in which you are from, telling you these are the rules, these are the good guys, these are the bad guys, go here, don't go here, this is helpful, this is harmful. And you have no choice but to just believe everything that was given to you and everything that was told to you. And then they tell you, this is how you succeed in this system. Go to school, pay attention, memorize facts, do what you're told, don't ask questions, get a good job, get married, get that white picket fence, get the 2.5 kids, the dog, save for retirement and you'll be good.
Garett:And so most people just do this. And then one day they wake up and wonder why they feel so empty inside, why nothing makes sense, why everybody is so depressed and so sick. And they wonder why there seems to be a class division where you have the haves and the have nots. You have one group of people that we call the ruling class that seem to have all the money and make all the rules. And you have everybody else just fighting to keep their head above water.
Garett:But because we are taught and told to not ask questions, people just go along with it and they fall into a narrative that, oh, well, maybe if my political person that I believe in gets in, then my life will be better. So people sit around and they wait for a savior, but that savior will never come. And this is what the movie is trying to tell us, is that you have to stop and wake up. And you have to realize that this whole system that you were born into was here long before you got here and it was built without your consent. And that the system is not inherently good, that the system uses you and that the system is dark, and that there is legit evil that exists, and it exists at the highest levels, which is absolutely crazy.
Garett:But what the matrix is trying to teach us is that it is your job to wake up, to ask questions, to question the nature of your reality, to stop believing what you were told. And it is your job to start trusting your intuition. And what happens when you start to do this is that you start to learn rules of the game. You start to learn and understand how the system is being ran. And when you learn the rules of the system, just like Neo, you become better equipped at navigating the system.
Garett:And if you do this for long enough and you become good enough, you can start using the system to your own benefit. And that's what Neo was trying to teach us. That's how he became a superhero in the matrix. He learned the rules and he bent and used those rules to his advantage. So here's what all this has taught me.
Garett:It is essentially impossible to completely disconnect from matrix, from the system. We are a part of the system. I mean, can do it. You can go get a cabin and be completely disconnected and completely unplugged. It'd be very hard.
Garett:There are people that do it, but it's not necessarily a life I wanna live. And I'm guessing it's a life most people don't wanna live. So we need the system. This is where all the cool stuff is. This is where the technology comes so I can even film this video.
Garett:There are good things about the society. There are good things about the matrix, but you just have to make sure that you understand the rules so the matrix is not used against you. Another big takeaway from this is that the matrix is going to do what the matrix is going to do. Meaning our system is gonna do what it's gonna do. Right?
Garett:As I'm filming this video, there is a release of 3,000,000 documents that are extremely dark and it's things we've known about for a long time, but people are finally realizing this and waking up. And what's crazy is probably nobody's gonna get arrested, nobody's gonna get in trouble, and it's just showing you that the system is gonna do what it's gonna do. Also, the time of this video, if you pay attention to the finance world, we are experiencing a major crash, stock market crash, crypto crash, all monetary systems are essentially crashing. So basically, what I'm saying is the system is going to do what it's going to do. There's also a whole bunch of political division going on right now, and the system is going to do what the system is going to do.
Garett:You can sit there on the Internet and scream into your echo chamber, but that produces almost zero change. In fact, nine out of 10 times when you are arguing or protesting a political event, you are doing exactly what the system wants you to do. Now, I'm not saying that there are not times to protest because there are and there are times to fight. But what I've learned is that true change starts within. If you want to affect the outer world, you need to change your inner world.
Garett:And I know it sounds cliche, and I know it sounds simple, but if you haven't done your inner work, if you are sick, if you are overweight, if you are depressed, if your finances are in shambles, maybe you shouldn't be spending all your time arguing with people online. Maybe you should be doing the inner work that needs to be done. Because the truth is the best way to affect change is to change yourself. And the better you become, the better everyone around you becomes. If you become a better person, then you become a better employee, you become a better spouse, you become a better parent, you become a better neighbor, and this change starts to cascade and it creates a butterfly effect.
Garett:And maybe you inspire someone in your family or you inspire a friend and they start making changes. You're not going to change the system by trying to fight the system. It's too big. It's too powerful. You're just one person.
Garett:You change the system and you fight the system by waking up and thinking for yourself and taking care of your health and doing the things you need to do to become the best version of yourself. And that is what the matrix is telling us, and that is what most people miss. So get out there and do the work, and let me know how I can help. See you on the other side.
